Project description: The first phase of the project includes the construction of a comprehensive water supply system in the area of Sabor-Iten-Tambach, located in the District (North) Keiyo in the northern part of the Province of the Rift Valley. The phase 2 consists in the densification of the Iten and Tambach distribution systems and includes also the densification of the Nakuru distribution system (the 4th biggest urban center in the country).

Project description: The project consists in the rehabilitation and reinforcement of the drinking water supply of the city in order to meet the current and urgent needs. The target population is 250,000 inhabitants at the horizon 2017.

Kenya – ITEN-TAMBACH-NAKURU - 2 centers


PHASE – 1 Iten-Tambach

  • Construction of a weir on Charama river
  • Construction of a 4,280 m3/d drinking water treatment plant (24h/d production).
  • The gravity system allows to operate near-autonomously, without any electrical energy contribution
  • Laying of a 22,300 m of treated water main – HDPE OD 400
  • Construction of a 1,250 m³ circular storage tank – reinforced concrete.

PHASE – 2 Iten-Tambach Nakuru

  • Laying of a 32,350 m of HDPE distribution network pipes in Iten
  • Laying of a 19,250 m of HDPE distribution network pipes in Tambach
  • Design and installation of district metered areas (16 main meters)
  • Procurement of 5,000 private meters to be installed by RVWSB
  • Laying of (replacements and extensions
  • OD 63 to OD 200) a 53,247 metres of HDPE distribution networks in the CBD, Freehold, Pangani, Lake View and Race Track districts of Nakuru city.
  • Laying of 2,000 connections.

Kenya – Mavoko - 5 centers


KMC dam

  • Procurement and installation of 2 + 1 pumps of 115 m³/h at 115 m, electrical panels, piping and valves
  • Construction of the pump room
  • Procurement and laying of a 6.2 km HDPE OD 355 raw water main from the intake towards the new water treatment plant
  • Installation of a step-down transformer (11/0.40 kV, 315 kVA)
  • Rehabilitation and cleaning of the existing dam.

EAPCC dam

  • Procurement and installation of 1 + 1 pumps of 115 m³/h at 115 m, electrical panels, piping and valves
  • Rehabilitation of the pump room
  • Procurement and laying of a 3.6 km of HDPE OD 250 raw water main for the raw water backup towards the new water treatment plant
  • Procurement and installation of a new step-down transformer (11/0.40 kV, 200 kVA)
  • Rehabilitation and cleaning of the existing dam.

New water treatment plant:

  • Construction of a 12,000 m³/day drinking water treatment plant, conventional process:
    • Coagulation / flocculation
    • Sedimentation
    • Filtration
    • Disinfection (chlorination)
    • pH correction of the treated water.
  • Procurement and installation of the electromechanical equipment:
    • Piping
    • Valves
    • Electrical control panels
    • Dosing equipment and for the preparation of the reagents
    • Instrumentation
    • Laboratory equipment.
  • Construction of a 5,000 m³ reinforced concrete ground reservoir incl. procurement and installation of valves and ancillary equipment
  • Procurement and installation of 1 + 1 pumps (150 m³/h at 75 m), electrical panels, valves, piping and rehabilitation of the pump room (pumping towards DAYSTAR university)
  • Installation of a step-down transformer (11/0.40 kV, 315 kVA).

Nairobi – Syokimau pipeline 

  • Procurement and laying of a 10.6 km HDPE OD 400 from Nairobi to Syokimau to improve the drinking water supply coming from the capital.
  • Construction of a 5,000 m³ storage reservoir downstream this new pipeline
  • Procurement and installation of valves and ancillary equipment in this new reservoir
  • Procurement and construction of a 300 m³ steel elevated tank to enable the supply of drinking water in the elevated zone of Syokimau
  • Procurement and installation of 1 + 1 pumps (200 m³/h at 25 m), electrical panels, piping, and valves
  • Construction of a small pump room.

Nol-Turesh pipeline 

  • Rehabilitation of the Salama pumping station
    • Procurement and installation/replacement of 3 new pumps (180 m³/h at 373 m)
    • Procurement and installation/ replacement of the electrical panels
    • Procurement of spare parts and servicing of recently installed pump (180 m³/h at 373 m)
    • Rehabilitation of the generator (1,825 kVA).
  • Procurement and installation of the equipment along the pipeline
  • Refurbishment of the storage reservoir upstream to the pipe.
